GoodLoop Mutual has marked an important milestone in its commitment to creating more inclusive communities, officially turning the first sod on its new Specialist Disability Accommodation development in Kambah.

Deborah Morris MLA joined representatives from GoodLoop Mutual and Community Bank Canberra and Regions to celebrate the beginning of construction and recognise the work that has brought the project to this stage.

Once complete, the development will provide thoughtfully designed, accessible homes for people living with disability. The homes will be created to support greater independence, choice and quality of life while providing residents with a safe and welcoming place to call home.

GoodLoop Mutual CEO Ivan Slavich said reaching the construction stage was a significant moment for the organisation.

“This project reflects our commitment to creating meaningful and lasting community impact. We are proud to see the development move from an idea into reality and look forward to the difference these homes will make for their future residents.”

Community Bank Canberra and Regions will also support the creation of a community garden at the site. The garden will provide residents with an inviting shared space that encourages connection, participation and wellbeing.

The sod turning represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the project, which has been shaped through careful planning and collaboration with partners who share GoodLoop Mutual’s vision for a more accessible and inclusive community.
